There are many free ones out there....but tbh DVD cat is the best all around with great support and not to mention he is a vendor on the forums ...best 10$ I've ever spent

BS Player and others will play almost any format on your Nexus 7. MP4 and avi play well. If you are playing it exclusively on your tablet, the smaller the file size the better.

    +1 for DVD Catalyst.

MP4 is natively supported, but most other formats will play well unless they have a crazy high bitrate. I have played AVI, MP4 and MKV files (including H264 720p files) with zero issues using MX Player and BS Player.

WinX DVD Ripper is one.. you can usually get it free via GiveAwayoftheday.com deals. They have them 3-4 times a year.

I also just got DVD Catalyst for $10. ITs nice to easily set it to do a N7, but trying to figure out how to do it for a normal HQ for use on a non N7, takes a bit of time. Both will do what you want.

Bought it as well, and it works well. Has anyone here used DVDFab? I use it to copy my DVDs so I / kids don't damage the originals, just wondering if it can do the same..

My mate uses DVDFab to back up his Blueray disks and he said it converts them into MP4 and plays with no issues on his Nexus 7. I was tempted to get DVDFab but went for DVDCatalyst due to the cost as it works for what I want.

Can you verify what settings he uses for the 7? There are so many options in frames size, not like DVD cat where you choose the device. I tried one once going to avi and the sound was a second off, was like watching a dubbed film except in english, almost impossible to watch since we know what they are saying by reading their lips...
    Thank you in advance.
