[HOW TO] get your contacts from your iPhone onto your Android Nexus 4

So, you have made the leap from Apple into the uncharted territory of Android.
Now to get your contacts onto your shiny new Nexus 4...

    1. The first thing you will need to do is to make sure you have a Gmail account. You can create one from the Google homepage if you do not already have one.

    2. Plug your old iPhone into your computer and open iTunes. Once plugged in, use the menu bar at the top of the window to navigate to the Info tab. Here you will see a list of syncing options, the first of which should be your contacts syncing options. In the drop-down menu next to the “Sync Contacts With” box, you want to select Google Contacts, and then type in your Gmail account information in the window that appears. This allows Gmail and Apple to update your contacts so that all of the names, numbers, and emails from your phone’s contacts are now in Google.

    3. You might want to login to Gmail to modify those contacts before syncing them with your new phone, as if you had a Gmail account prior to this process, you will notice that your contacts list is now much larger, and most likely will have several duplicates.

    4. Now that you have your contacts in Gmail all organized exactly how you want them, it’s time to put them on your N4 phone.

    5. When you first boot up your new phone, it will ask you if you want to sync your phone to a Google account. Enter in your Gmail info, and you will be all set. Your phone will automatically import all the contacts from your Gmail.

    6. If you have already done that initial setup on your Nexus 4 & just want to import your new contacts, then move to point 7.

    7. Go to your settings menu. There, you will want to select the “Accounts & Sync” option, which will show you every account synced with your Nexus 4. Once you have selected your Google account to sync with your phone it will not only sync all your contacts to your N4, but it will also automatically set up your email, calendar etc to be sent to & synched with your phone too. You can choose which parts of the Google services you wish to have synched to your nice new N4.

    You should be able to:

    1) Go to your contacts on the Nexus, choose import/export > export to storage and save them to 'Phone'

    2) Put your Nexus into disc-drive mode and connect it to your computer

    3) Copy the .vcf file from your Nexus (which will appear on your Mac as an external hard drive)

    4) Set-up your mail account on the iPhone

    5) Send that mail account an email with the .vcf file as an attachment

    6) Open the mail, click on the attachment and tap 'Add all contacts'
