Root it and pick a rom with RRO layers compatibility and then you're good to go. Personally I get awesome battery life on my Nexus 6.

I have used the Nexus 4 and recently upgraded to Nexus 6.
Great phone, but the Android Lollipop version does not fit the properties of battery and the amoled display.
The design causes battery drain because the background is white. And it hurts my eyes. Need to lower the brightness frequently.
The background of the Google apps should be switchable to black and only text should be light.
The battery life of the N6 could be significantly longer when apps has a dark design/background.
Now I am typing this post with Tapatalk, white text on black. This app gives me the choice to select a light or dark design.
In my view this option should be in all apps that can be used on phones with amoled displays.
Google come in action.

I and several SMods on the Note 2, Note 3 forum are using Terminus. It's rock solid and stable.

Thx again. I did a quick view by following the links.
Seeing this I got the idea that the Google stock ROM for the Nexus 6 is far from perfect.
Terminus is 5.1.1 with the bug fixes to the previous stock rom. I only ran my Nexus 6 stock for about 30 minutes so I would surmise that you are correct. IMHO every stock rom from google is using us as beta testers, especially with the T-Mobile G-1 - the first android smartphone.
