It's been determined by several people here on this forum that Windows 8 is not stable with trying to connect to a Nexus 7. Can you try with XP or Windows 7 ??
Before I upgraded to Kitkat, my device function normally. I can transfer files to and from my laptop. But after upgrading, it is no longer recognize as media device. Please help. (I am using Nexus Asus 7 2013 2nd Generation).

And now with my Nexus 10, Win 8 is being a beast. I did re-root the 10 and 7 on 8 though, why it doesn't like them may be a 4.4.4 issue...
Possible too that your Win 8 machine got some update that clobbered it's ability to communicate with your N10 since you last rooted it?
Very possible, it's a conspiracy![]()

OT, but fun....
I'm sure they're involved in a whole lot more than credit is given.
Oh I see! However, I wonder about the fact that I am using the windows 8.1 for already 5 months, and it worked well with N7, but this month, it is not recognized already. Is there any remedy besides reverting my computer OS to XP or Windows 7? Is resorting to factory reset (N7)will help? Please help.
Factory reset probably won't help.
Uninstalling all unused USB drivers might fix it.
Using a different USB port might fix it.
Sometimes, nothing will fix it. Period.
Chalk it up to Win8 and the later Android versions not getting along.
Other options are to use Wifi Explorer or a cloud based storage like copy.com.
