Wiireless transfer of files from windows xp PC

I have a PC with Windows XP + SP3 connected to a wireless router by Ethernet cable for our home network. The Nexus 7 connects fine to the network. I have now installed both the AirDroid and Wireless File Transfer apps to my tablet, but have no idea how to make the link to allow file transfer from the PC folders. The PC does not find the Nexus tablet amongst the devices in Device Manager on the PC.

I would be very grateful if someone could spell out the steps to do this.

Or do I have to stick with a USB cable connection , which does work?

I had a hard time with AirDroid as well.

I am now using SyncMe Wireless with excellent success. There is no software needed on your PC, you just need to share file permissions to your chosen PC Sync Directory/s, and select the Directory/s on your tablet for your Sync jobs. Add multiple sync jobs wth different instructions to multiple directory's. Automate a job uploading new pictures or files to certain directory's on your PC. Add a Sync job to download a PC directory's contents/changes to your tablet. It is very flexible and I found it easy to setup on my Win 7 PC. I hope it will be just as easy on an XP PC.

    Thanks Pallen.

I have had a quick look and I see it uses Samba. I am far from a Geek and have virtually no knowledge of Android, but from some earlier googling, I get the impression that Samba is involved with "rooting" and I understand anything like that would void my Nexus 7 Warranty?

It uses "Uses Windows shares, Samba, CIFS (SMB)." I take this as a uses this - OR - that options. I do not have Samba installed, I found it difficult to set up as well. I am using shared windows directories. The hardest part on the PC would be figuring out how to use Properties/Sharing - Share settings and that is not hard to figure out. On the SyncMe Wireless app it is a matter of selecting your directories and Sync options.

This is easy, easy, EASY! Just install ES File Explorer (free). Not only is it an excellent file manager, it also has the feature of wireless transfer to/from your PC built it. You do not need to configure or install anything on your XP. Any Android device with ES File Explorer installed will act as the "master" and your PC as the "slave." As soon as you tap to connect from your N7, all your folders on your PC will appear and you simply copy/move/paste, etc. (as with any file transferring - file share permissions on the PC must be enabled)

So easy a caveman can do it. Honest!

I love ES file Explorer and it works fine as well. It allows browse access to all the shared directories more easily. I have just found that each time I use it I have to re-scan for server though. And this just takes more time to do for each connection.

ES File Explorer all the way. I don't have to rescan every time I use it.
