How Do I Transfer Files to My Nexus 7?

How do I transfer files to my Nexus 7 ??

I've tried plugging it into 3 different PCs via USB, an XP box, Server 2003, and an Ubuntu box - I want to transfer some music over to it. It recognizes it as a Nexus - but then wants a driver - if I cancel out of the wizard in Windows - it does not see it as a drive.

Is there a setting on the Nexus I need to enable to make this work?

Or do I have to transfer all of my music and files to my Nexus 7 through Google's cloud??

Thanks in advance for any help anyone can give!

What if you let it finish the driver install?

It doesn't find a driver on Windows update - I do have the option to install a driver from a specific location, but I have no idea where to point the wizard to find the driver...

I just plugged mine in for the first time and the driver for "Nexus 7" does in fact fail to load properly however the device is accessable through Explorer. It's called "Nexus 7" (go figure). Portable Media Player.

    I'm on Windows 7 64Bit

I can copy any files to the device or from the device.
Not sure why you're having an issue.

Plug it in again, give it a minute then look in Explorer to see if it's being recognized.

I don't have Bluetooth on my desktop PCs - and my most "current" desktop OS is Windows XP. Funny though - works just fine with my Asus Transformer TF101

I'm having issues with XP too. I'm working on a solution. I'm fine on my Vista...driver installed fine. I'm let you know if I figure it out.

Also in the meantime there is an app called Air Droid in the play store. Check that out for now.

Maybe I'm the oddball in left field, but I find myself using Samba. I don't have my N7 yet, but on my phone I have AndSMB installed. I have an Ubuntu server running in the basement which is running a Samba server. AndSMB connects and I can see all of my music, pictures, documents, etc. Check the boxes I want to select and copy over.

I know this doesn't really help, but it's at least my means of transferring data to Android devices. While I don't have my N7 yet, I can't imagine it would be any different than my phone in conjunction with AndSMB.

I use SMB (SAMBA) most of the time too. One advantage - using some file managers (File Manager HD and ES File Explorer) one can stream media via SMB to your tablet.

I have my movies ripped to mp4 and I can just play them from my pc without having to transfer them.
