    Nexus 7 2012 - PureNexus

Just for the heck of it, I decided to dust off my Nexus 7 2012 today, and see what it could do with something other than Google's s-l-o-w stock Lollipop. I decided if I bricked it, no loss since it's gathering dust anyway so...

Flashed custom TWRP recovery, Pure Nexus ROM, Pico Open GApps (minimal set of Google Apps), SuperSU (for root access) and ParrotMod. So far it's running like lightning! I'll have to see how it is once things settle in and some apps get installed, but so far, lovin' it!!

Sounds interesting... I haven't touched the 7... since... well probably... Yeah, been a while...
Good idea, I'll need some prompts, as I haven't done any rooting stuff for quite a while...
The 7 is already rooted... Just the rest... Well it's dusty.

    Efin,

Maybe as my time allows I'll write a guide explaining what I did in more detail, and where to get all the pieces. So far after adding over 100 apps, a live wallpaper, and streaming with either Pandora or Police Scanner Pro - it's still performing very well and very fast. Marshmallow sweetness on the 2012, who woulda thought...

That's awesome, no pressure, it's still off and sleeping, more time won't hurt it
Now for a fix for the Nexus 10 battery... That one I'd use now...

Two weeks out now and my Nexus 7 2012 is still performing very well. I've started on a guide for those who are interested in doing the same to theirs. OK, that's about it for now...

OK! So I've bought myself a museum piece!
I acquired mine yesterday, trading in a useless Samsung Galaxy tablet! Not heard much about them. But it looked good on the shelf! And is in pristine condition.
Put itself through some upgrades already. Got as far as 4.4.3. Then hints at 4.4.4 but won't take the plunge!

I'm assuming you got a Nexus 7 2012 model? If you decide to stay stock, I would recommend going all the way to 4.4.4 - otherwise mine is still flying on Pure Nexus, and ParrotMod. I'm still working on a guide since I have a hunch there's TONS of Nexus 7 2012 owners who would like to update and maybe don't quite know how to do it all. My recommendation, stay away from stock Lollipop v5 and above of Android. Maybe I can answer some questions for you though as my guide is not yet complete. Congrats on your new relic!

All in all, I am happy with my geriatric Nexus 7 2012. It cost me virtually nothing, and runs the three apps I acquired it for, Trainspotter, Plane finder and Sky view perfectly. It is convenient to hold and carry. I have a Windows 10 and an iMac desktops as well as a a Win 10 laptop. So I am well catered for with the serious/social stuff. We'll just have to see now, who outlasts who!
