    Music File Transfer

Well! That was helpful! I had all my music sorted out, alphabetically in genres on my PC. When I transferred them to the the Nexus. It just uploaded into one single random file! With absolutely no way to edit them!

Doesn't sound real helpful to me, but lets see if we can get it sorted out for you... what kind of files are/is this music? MP3, Flac, WAV ?? And how did you go about transferring it? So several music files were combined into 1 file?? This is a Nexus 7 2012 correct?

That's correct. It's going to sound complicated and stupid, but here goes. My music was collected from various sources over the years. And was stored neatly in genre files on a Windows 8.1 laptop. Now I'd already discovered that my Nexus didn't want to 'socialise' with the laptop. So I had to transfer the files to a desktop PC which would.
I tried at first with an SD card. But had problems. So eventually transferred them to a CD as MP3 files. Then copied them over, one genre at a time to the Nexus. But as I said. It just dumped everything into one huge random file.
    And yes. It's a Nexus 7 2012 1st gen.

Yay! Sorted! I found a free app in Google Play 'Bit MP3 Player' It does everything I would have hoped for. Lists, Genres everything.
