IMO, if you are upgrading major OS revisions, you should always back up important data (photos, music, videos etc) and do an FDR. This will solve most major issues. Also, in 5.0 the runtime switches from Dalvik to ART. Starting over is important!

Did as advised and did a factory reset and also wiped the cache - all a very painless exercise when you have backed up. The speed using Android 5 is better but there are still regular pregnate pauses while the Nexus thinks. It's nowhere near as fast as it was before the upgrade but bearable if Google is working on a fix for the Nexus 7 2012. Do we know if they are? From what I read they have worked on a fix for newer machines. If there is no fix in the pipeline for Nexus 7 2012 I may have to seek help on getting back to Android 4.

I'd wait a few weeks. As a user here named Danvee pointed out, they seem to have put the 5.0.1 update out there for their newest devices first. I'm confident we will see another update for the Nexus 7 2012, but I'm an optimist...

Jim I am a newby here; I just registered after discovering your tuning recommendations above. I have the 2012 and it has been my most cherished possessions for the past 2 years! I spent about $100 this summer because the charge port became damaged...probably my fault, but I felt it was worth it since it is my go-to-toy every evening. I'm working on my recovery cache first to see if that helps. I have a couple of questions; I have read here and other places about disabling Google Now. I can't find it? Is it an app? Also I have 2 questionable apps ....don't know where they came from; "Google Hindi Input" and "Google Pinyin Input". I think I tried to uninstall them but it sounded like I shouldn't. I must admit I'm a Facebook-aholic but I will definitely check out the suggestion for it. Appreciate your help and the clear instructioins you have given so far. Thanks!

Hi Casi! Welcome to the forum here!!

Look for an App in your icons called "Google Settings" - then once you launch that app, look in there for "Search & Now" - Google Now should be the top item listed, there's a little slider next to it, be sure it's turned off (slider to the left).
