You could always grab ROM Toolbox. It has a root explorer plus a bunch of other root only apps built into one single app.

Ah cool, I own ROM Toolbox Pro from while on sale. (Still is as of this post). I will see if I can duplicate your directions using it. Found .../system/app' directories and pasted. Have file permissions set to rw-r--r-- but I get the 'Unfortunately, Browser has stopped.' error.

I've been using ES File Explorer for a while now. It will do what Root Explorer does and more, and it's free!

So it does Thank you, Nice to have options.
Even though I have set the permissions to rw-r--r-- with 'Browser' showing in apps and have rebooted twice I am still getting the app error. No joy for me yet.

Seems like it is hit or miss on this. It took 2 or 3 times for it to work for me.

Ok I just had to redo this after reflashing back to bone stock. There is one more step that is required that I forgot.

You need to go back into root explorer and go to system/app and find thses two files

    BrowserProviderProxy.apk
    BrowserproviderProxy.odex

You need to rename these two files. I just added a .bak to the end of both and it works fine. Remember to rename the files you need to click on Mount R/W at the top.

I updated the OP to reflect this. Sorry for the confusion.
