How to make .avi video files recognized on the Nexus 7?

Hi all, I have a bit of an issue. Currently I can connect my Nexus 7 (unrooted) to my Windows XP machine (it's detected as "Portable Media Player"), and I can copy video files like mkv's and mp4's just fine, and they play back without issues with MX Player.

However, when I copy and paste .avi files, I get this prompt: "The file may be copied to the device for storage and transport use only.... If you copy the file now, it will be stored on the device but may not be presented on the device user interface. Do you wish to copy the file to the device anyway?"

If I click on yes, it's copied over fine however on the Nexus MX player cannot see it to play (I assume MX player can play avi's just fine). How do I get around this limitation? Will other media players like Dice be able to see it?

I've transfered and played many .avi files on my N7. I use VLC Player and ES File Explorer. Grab VLC here - http://static.droidnetwork.net/wicke...id-v7-neon.apk

Once VLC is installed, I open up ES File Explorer to navigate to my "Movie" folder and click on the .avi file. VLC will open and start playing the movie.

I second what wicked has stated. I'm rooted but it doesn't make a difference, .avi files will play without being rooted by either Vlc or BS Player.

Try the Diceplayer or you can reformat your AVI files for Nexus 7 if you wanna get a decent video playback effect.

To play AVI on Nexus, we had better convert AVI to Nexus more supported video format.

iDealshare VideoGo can assist you to convert AVI to Nexus 7 very easily.

Besides converting AVI to Nexus, it also can convert WMV, FLV, MKV, VOB, TiVo, AVCHD(*.mts, *.m2ts),etc to Nexus 7, Nexus 9 and Nexus 10.
