Any reason why N7 and N10 can't wifi connect at the same time?

So I have a strange issue-we have a phone we use for a wifi hotspot at our house. We've got a laptop, and the 2 tablets we use it on. The issue is that it won't support both of the tablets at once (Nexus 7 and Nexus 10). It allows us to use it on the laptop and Nexus 7 at the same time, and the laptop and Nexus 10 at the same time. But it will not let both of the tablets (without the laptop being linked) get on at once. As soon as you kick one of them off the wifi the other will load.

I've tried changing the max number of supported devices from 5 to 3 on the phone, and have rebooted all devices several times, but no solution..and there's nothing else that would be latching on to it-the phone will say '2 connected users'.

I know this could be a number of things, so I have no clue if it is an issue with the tablets or the phone, but if anyone else has had this issue before with their tablets I'd really appreciate advice! : ) thanks!

Possible you've hard-coded the same IP address for both tablets? I know it's not likely, you probably have both set for dynamic IP address, but it's a weird problem so I'm trying a weird suggestion.

I checked the WiFi MAC address and the IP addresses, the last 2 numbers are different.. That makes sense though, I totally thought that was gonna be it. Yes, it is very weird, I keep googling and finding nothing..

Gonna try to update the phone when we can get WiFi somewhere else and see if that makes a difference..

    Thank you for the suggestion!

Are you using the built in Hotspot, or are you using an app like FoxFi?

Whoops sorry, I thought my reply posted from my phone but didn't. We're using the built in hotspot feature. : /
