    USB Device Not Recognized

    Hi
My second gen. Nexus 7 isn't being recognized by either of my windows 7 computers.
My son's Nexus (1st gen. i think) is identified just fine on both computers.

The device manager shows it as Unknown Device under Universal Serial Bus Controller. If i double pick on that it says "Windows has stopped the device because it has reported problems (Code 43)"
If i try to Update Driver Software, search web, it says latest driver is installed.
If i try to pick if from a list of device drivers, there is no Google drivers to pick from.
...but i dont think its a computer issue anyway, exact same results on two different computers.

So i look to the nexus, while it connected to the computer, i thought there was something in Settings - Storage & USB, that let me choose how it was connected
Mass storage device or something, but i have no such choices there, the three dots at the top only has Help & Feedback.
    Am i missing something ?

    Thanks
    Gidds

Try swiping down on your Nexus 7's Notification Shade and selecting the card for USB - change it from Charging Only to MTP. Do you then see contents of your Nexus 7 on your Windows PC?

    There is no such choice
Wifi, Bluetooth, Do not disturb, etc..
    Nothing about USB
    ??

What version of Android are you running? Look in Settings > About Tablet

Thanks - it helps to have that info.

Once you plug your USB cable into your Nexus 7 and your PC, you need to tell your Nexus 7 to connect via USB, it's a security feature of Android 6. Are you sure you're not seeing a card in your notifications once everything is plugged together? I surely would not factory reset for this issue. Try again, power everything off, connect, power up your PC, then your Nexus 7, pull down the Notification Shade from the top on your home screen, and see what's there. Just so you know, not all USB cables are created equal. Are you able to use the original cable? Does the USB port on your Nexus 7 feel loose/wobbly at all (be gentle when you check that, you don't want to break it...). Does it charge with the USB cable OK??

OK, I rebooted everything and no change.
I've tried two different cables, neither are the original but both work on my son's Nexus and both charge mine just fine.
The cable clicks into the Nexus quite nice, I've always taken care not to abuse it.

The box that pops us on the PC says....
USB device not recognized. One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned and windows does not recognize it. For assistance in solving this problem click this message.

    What version of Windows?

    Let's try something else...

Settings > About Tablet > Build Number <-- tap Build Number 7 times to enable Developer Options

    then...

Settings > Developer Options > Select USB Configuration > set to MTP

    then...

Settings > Developer Options > USB Debugging > turn ON, allow USB Debugging - then let's retry a reboot of all, and a reconnect... any difference??

    Okay
    Done and done
    With no change at all
