Reasons to wait and how long before purchase

While I'm tempted to pre-order tomorrow, I'm wondering if I want to wait for a for the device to get a root exploit and a few ROMs made for it, and see how the quality shakes out. I was thinking maybe hold out for a month (tops)

I'm guessing with it being pure Google Root/ROM's will get ported over pretty fast. But I've never had a device in it's first couple of months before. And the N7 was my first pure Google device.

I'm interested in reasons to wait and reasons why you are ready to buy now!

It seems like there is not a lot of excitement (compared to some devices) for V2. Do you think that is because many people are satisfied with the V1, and/or don't see much reason to update for what is more of a 'refresh' than a new device?

    Any or all thoughts welcome

    Major hardware upgrade.
Rooted versions of 4.3 are already posted for the Gen1.
CM is already basing new ROMs on 4.3
All the Devs need is a copy of the Gen2 ROM (for the hardware support) and they'll be on the job.
If Google had done what they did with the Gen1 launch all of that would have been waiting for us when ours arrived.

Personally, I'm waiting for a screen protector...

I've decided to wait, and wait for some 4.3 based ROMs & kernels to drop for the v1.

Get out your helmet. They're dropping now.
Faux already has his M kernel available.

I'm guessing maybe you are trying to say that Faux has released his mainline kernel, but when I read it I thought you meant that he had dropped m-kernel which of course is metallice's kernel

    Yep.
Faux uses M, ES, and U to classify his
Mainline, Enhanced Stock and Ultimate kernels.
Hence the capital 'M' sans '-'.
That's the only one so far. Love to see what the U can do, since the M is so good right now.

I've used metallice's kernels in the past, nice work.
Faux's seemed faster and smoother in my specific cases.

No exploit needed, bro. This is pure Google! Simplest root method out there.

I'm thinking that ChainFire's might work, but haven't seen a report yet.

Guess I've been spending too much time in the Note 2 forums.
