Nexus Media Importer? You need it to use USB OTG, and I believe now it supports writing to USB. Or, you can root and not need it at all.

So while I certainly respect and appreciate then rick's input (ie, the post above mine), I wanted to confirm this is still the case.

Danvee, you referred to compatibility; care to shed some light on that for me? What can/should I check for to ensure this?
NMI has been working for pretty much everyone, but the N7 2013 has so many 'little' issues with software and hardware, it's hard to be 100% positive.
I've seen reports of 15J working, but 15Q going flaky.
So far as the cables, to be an OTG cable, this is the correct configuration:

Problem is that a number of cables are sold as OTG that in fact are not.
Testing with a meter can show if the configuration is correct, but, for the most part, outwardly, you can't tell.
A number of eBay sellers had gotten 'OTG' cables which weren't.
Best way is to buy from a good seller, with good feedback and a good return policy.
I bought the set from BobjGear, and had no problems. Bought 2 from an eBay seller and they were not OTG.
Rather than 'compatible' I should have said 'correct'.

Thanks for the response panda! Yes my apologies again. Nexus media importer is what I meant. Is that the NMI people reference? Sorry I'm a little slow lol.

So you're saying it used to be read only but now allows r/w?

Thanks for the tip on rooting and am aware that opens the ability to do it. I'm actually asking on behalf of a friend who won't root and is considering the 2nd N7

Thanks Dan. I do understand what makes it an OTG but wasn't aware there were "fakes" so to speak. Good heads up my friend

15j and 15q are the build designations I take it? Again I apologize I haven't kept up with the 2nd Gen N7.

They were 'updates' to ostensibly fix the Touchscreen and GPS issues after the initial update.
Q was their latest attempt. It fixed some, left some the same, and made some worse and bootloop.
Other 'issues' may have been picked up along the way.
