Of all the bad units in all the factories in all of China, it walked into CR's office. The other day I told a friend that Google had better watch it, because Amazon's surely watching and won't make this mistake with the new Kindles. This friend over the last few years has bought iPads and Kindles for his family, never a problem.

The Kindles and Nooks run on a heavily themed Android.
Like the iGuys, unless hacked, they're a closed, controlled environment.
Less chance for something mucking it it up.
IIRC, they also run a much earlier and proven Android base.
The combo of new hardware and new software might have caused Google/ASUS to shoot themselves in the foot.
Bad part is, other than touch screen 'irregularities' I didn't know that I had any other issues until I found that mine was, in fact, rebooting as well, but in its sleep... :what:

Also can't say that they didn't test a 'representative sample'.
They buy their stuff from regular retail stores, so.....

Yeah, but what was the probability they'd get one of the bad units? Call it dumb luck, but CR is the source people listen to, whereas Techbargains' review (5 out of 5!) isn't going to be republished on Yahoo. It was Techbargains' glowing words that prompted me to buy one so early.

The big selling point for me is open architecture, especially with custom ROMs. But most consumers simply want a device to work, and at risk of being called a heretic , this is good news for Amazon and Apple.

Android has been glitchy since day one, it's one of the reasons I like it, and dislike it... I tell people that have issues with that to go Apple and join the sheep...

Software glitches are eventually fixed through updates.
    Hardware glitches aren't so easily...
Bad part is that, ATP, they don't know which it is, or a combination of both.

That situation would be rare indeed in the iUniverse.

I'm heading to bestbuy to return my N7 2nd Gen 32GB and wait for awhile until all bugs resolved and fixes are in place. 2days since i got mine and twice the app launcher crashed and Netflix wouldn't work. I've upgraded when i handed down my 1stGen which i had great experience and the reason why i'm sticking with an android tab. Asus and Google has a lot to do to straight things out and keep Nexus7 a serious option in the market.

This is why articles like this need to be taken with a grain of salt. Full disclosure I did not read the CR article. I only looked at the Yahoo blurb.

The 'gibberish' problem was in Swype, or more accurately, in Swype on 4.3.

It was not unique to the 2nd gen. It was particularly bad in tapatalk and tapatalk based apps.

It's since been fixed with an update to Swype. At least its been fixed in Swype from the store.

I can't speak to any other ghost touch issues that the 2nd gen might have.
