What's this small Android update, even after a clean flash of CleanROM 1.6?

I noticed it today, the first time I'd turned on my N7 in a few days. Since I was going from CleanROM 1.5 to 1.6, I ignored it.

After doing a full wipe via Fastboot (boot, cache, recovery, system and userdata), then flashing CWM 6.0.3.7 (now available in Touch for Flo), I was again prompted to download the update, JSS15R.

I haven't heard anything about it. All right, it's very small, just 8 megs, so I decided to test it out. CWM warned "Signature verfication failed" and asked if I wanted to try anyway. All right. Then it said "Root access possibly lost. Fix?"

Never mind. My trust of Android updates is so low that I did another full wipe and reflashed CleanROM. Now before I even think of trying this update, I'm going to investigate this update thoroughly. Here's info on it.

Under CleanROM 1.5, Quadrant Standard gave me benchmarks of 5100 to over 5200. Under CleanROM 1.6, I'm getting benchmarks of 5600 to over 5700. Awesome!

I attempted the update. It failed. I can understand that since I'm on a custom ROM, but why bother me in the first place? CWM again warned that root was possibly lost, and if it was, CWM did restore it.

However, I'm not going to take a chance that something got messed up. Because I trust Google's updates ABSOLUTELY FREAKING ZERO, I'm going to do yet another clean flash this afternoon.

I read about it this afternoon. Hasn't hit mine yet. I'll decline until I see what the general consensus is.

Someone in that thread: "I notice a major battery drain with this new update. What the hell Google. You are really tearing crap up."

In my case, it had effect on my freezing and KB issues (which were made much worse by 15Q) but now introduced a new wrinkle: waking reboots.
It had only done it occasionally in its sleep before, but now it happens while awake.

To clean up a statement used often by a late uncle; "Google could screw up a bowling ball with a feather."

And they keep finding bigger feathers to include with each 'downdate'...

Nice morph with the Picard facepalm. Sigh, I would otherwise laugh.

Here we go: I disabled the update by locating the .zip and renaming it to .zip.bak, then starting the update. My N7 didn't reboot when it would have, and when I cancelled the install, the notification is gone.

I'm going to wait for Scott's next CleanROM that incorporates this update, if it's worthwhile. Google hasn't even said what it's about!

Best we can tell; contained within that mere 8M file are the YouTube and camera reboot fixes.
    No other confirmation.

    (only froze 4X writing that)
