HTC Working on a Nexus Phone That Will Include Apple 3D Touch-like Controls [Rumor]

The above image was a concept artist's render of a rumored HTC Nexus 5 from a couple years ago.

We finally have a rumor for the next Nexus smartphone from Google. Supposedly, HTC is the latest OEM to get a crack at building a successful Nexus smartphone. The other part of this rumor suggests that the HTC Nexus will include some type of pressure sensitive controls in the display which will be similar to the 3D Touch functionality found in the Apple iPhone 6S.

For those who don't know how this tech works, the pressure sensitive controls allow you to hold your thumb or finger lightly over an app or icon just to gather info about it. Alternatively, it also provides secondary functions for those apps when you press down a bit harder on the icon. Technically, it's similar to the long-press that we already have on Android, so it might not add that much more to the experience.

We are a bit skeptical of this rumor because there has been no word that Google was working on the software for this functionality in Android N. Of course, there could be several things they haven't talked about yet, so it's still possible, and we shouldn't discount it out of hand.

No LG-Made Nexus Device in 2016

LG will be taking a pass on making a Nexus device this year. According to a report from CNET, an LG executive confirmed at Mobile World Congress that "LG needs to focus on its own brand." Supposedly, LG is "totally happy" with the work it did on the previous Nexus phones as well as their relationship with Google. He further added that the G5 project requires a great deal of resources that will be better spent on its own phones.

This has not been confirmed by Google when reached for comment, and LG has yet to publicly confirm it either, yet we would not be surprised if it turns out to be true. The question remains, "Who will be making Nexus devices in 2016?"

Google Nexus 5X Price Drops by $30

It looks like Google is trying to add an extra incentive for folks to consider the Nexus 5X. They just dropped its online price by $30. That means the 16GB version is $349 and the 32GB version is $399 (previously $379 & $429 respectively), for the unlocked version of the Nexus 5X.

This seems like the perfect "sweet spot" for this device and probably should have been its retail price from the get go. Regardless, we can't fault Google for wanting to pad their margins with the latest Nexus device. They usually make very little to nothing on their Nexus line anyway (after you figure in development costs and advertising).

Wugfresh Nexus Root Toolkit Updated To v2.1.1

The Nexus Root Toolkit is still the easiest way to Root your phone. It also does things like unlock your bootloader, install custom recovery, and flash stock images to unbrick your phone. The utility is able to find and download pretty much anything you need so this is a one stop shop for everything. Wugfresh has just updated it to version 2.1.1. The latest version adds full marshmallow automation for NRT functions, new system that doesn't really on modified boot images but uses TWRP's adb root shell instead, automated features now work in any build mode, nexus player scripts have been updated, and bugs have been fixed.

This one tool will work with every Nexus device and it does not matter which build of Android you are running. The utility also downloads and installs the proper fastboot drivers which means you don't have to install the full SDK in order for your phone to be recognized by the PC. Head to the link below to grab this toolkit.
